I have a PAYG (pay as you go) tariff, can I still use HulloMail?
Unfortunately the majority of Mobile Operators will not allow you to divert your voicemail to us when you're a PAYG customer, however some do.
Currently 3 UK and giffgaff will allow you to use HulloMail with a PAYG tariff.
Is HulloMail Free?
Essentially yes, we do not charge you to sign up or use the service. The service uses your monthly minute allowance so as long as you stay within your allowance it will remain free of charge.
You may wonder how we can offer these great features for free? We intend to generate revenue through enterprise-focus offerings and premium features, but these are works in progress.
Will my Mobile Operator charge me for using HulloMail?
When you are in the UK, calls made to you that are diverted to HulloMail and calls you make to HulloMail should be covered within your monthly minute allowance, but please confirm this with your Mobile Operator. If you keep within your allowance you should not see any additional charges. If you exceed your allowance then charges will be added according to your plan.
If you download and play a message via the mobile internet you may receive a data charge if you've exceeded your data allowance or don't have one. When roaming abroad we recommend retrieving messages online whenever you can.
Why is it important to activate my HulloMail account following sign up?
It's important to do this if you have an iPhone, or to make sure it's done if you're a BlackBerry or an Android user, as this makes sure voicecalls are forwarded to our service.
How do I activate my account?
If you have HulloMail for iPhone you need to follow these steps to activate your account:
- Once you've completed the sign up process, exit the app and go to your phone's address book. You will find three new Contacts, you need to select the one called HulloMail Activate and call.
- This is not a call, as such, and therefore you won't be charged.
- You will receive an on-screen message saying that activation was a success.
- On completion there will be a green dismiss button - select this to complete.
If you have HulloMail for BlackBerry or HulloMail for Android, these steps are already done for you, so there is no need to manually activate.
If you have HulloMail for other devices/our web-based service, your Activation Code will be displayed at the end of the sign up process. This code can also be found under Service Info when you log in to your account via My HulloMail. It will look something like this **004*(a phone number)*11#. When you call this number be sure to include the * and # characters. Your screen will display a message telling you that ‘diverts are active’ or similar.

My activation code doesn't work, what should I do?
Make sure that you're dialling as if you were dialling a telephone number, including ALL of the stars (**) and the hash (#). Once dialled, press the call or send button to make a call. On some phones, if you attempt to dial the ** at the start of the code too quickly your phone will display a +. If this is the case, leave about a second between each button press so that your mobile phone displays **. Some phones may display an error message such as 'unknown command' when the code is entered. This does not necessarily mean that it failed, try the next step in the sign up process when prompted.
I haven't received an email to verify my email address
Once you have completed the HulloMail sign up process, an email will be sent to the email address you registered with. Sometimes this email can get delivered to your spam folder, please check there first. If you still haven't received the email, you will need to visit My HulloMail. Sign in using the same details you registered with, select Email and retype your email address, this will prompt a new verification email to be sent. Follow the instructions in the email to verify your email address.
I can't connect my Google Sync account, what do I need to do?
Unfortunately, this is a known issue with Google Sync accounts, but Google are aware of the problem. To rectify this and unlock your Google account from the 'Captcha state' please visit https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and enter your Google Account credentials along with the text, shown in the image, where required.
Completing this process successfully will make your Google Account operational again and allow HulloMail to connect.
I want to return to HulloMail
If you want to return to HulloMail, all you have to do is...
Does HulloMail have the same features as my current voicemail?
HulloMail has all the features you are used to from a voicemail service and more. When you get a new message you will get alerted on your device and/or via email. Then you can access your voicemail however you prefer via the app on your mobile, email as an mp3 or by calling in.
But HulloMail is so much more. For a start messages are in your email, so you can listen to them, forward them, download them, keep them forever or even reply with a Hullo, the cool new two-way voice messaging feature.

Why does it matter where I choose to store my messages?
With HulloMail you can choose where your messages are stored, allowing you total control over your messages.
HulloMail will always store your messages unless you change this. Having HulloMail as your message store means your messages will be stored with us and we will send a copy to your email, should you wish, and give you access to your messages via the web, the app and by calling in. This default option means you will have to manage your Inbox and also the messages that are stored in your My HulloMail and the HulloMail app, this setting will allow for a synchronised view between your app, voice and web access, but if you want to add an email and keep your messages forever, then you need to change your message store to your email provider.
If you have an iPhone you need to go to My HulloMail. Once you have logged in, select the Email tab. Choose your email provider from the drop down menu, tick HulloMail Sync and follow the prompts. We recommend that you change your message store to your email provider and select HulloMail Sync once you have signed up, to allow for a fully synchronised view of your messages and missed calls, however you choose to access.
You can change your message store directly on your phone if you have an Android or a BlackBerry. Launch the app, select the Settings menu. Select Email from this menu. On the next screen choose your email provider from the drop down menu, add in your email address (if not already displayed) and then tick HulloMail sync. This will change your message store to your email provider.

What are Hullos?
Hullos are short voice messages that you can send to your friends, family and collegues for FREE, like voicemail but without having to make a call first. The recipient of a Hullo doesn't need to be a HulloMail user although it would be great if they were, you only need their email address to send a Hullo. Your mobile operator may charge for sending a Hullo if you exceed your monthly data allowance or you are roaming.
What is my personal HulloMail number?
Once you have completed the sign up process you will receive a Welcome email with your personal HulloMail number detailed. This number can be dialled by anyone to leave you a message directly without having to call you first. The number calls your mailbox so your phone won't ring out at an important moment. Your personal HulloMail number can be found in the My HulloMail area under Service Info if you can't find your Welcome email.
Can I access my messages from any phone?
Yes. You can call your mailbox from any phone, however for security reasons you will be asked to enter the phone number you signed up with and your HulloMail PIN.
How do I change the mobile number associated with my account?
This can be done, you just need to send us an email to request this at support@hullomail.com.
How do I increase/decrease the time before HulloMail picks up?
You need to call the following code:
**61*+44HulloMail number*11*DELAY#
Where DELAY is stated, this is where you can enter the amount of seconds delay you want. Options available 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 seconds. Please don't forget to include all the symbols such as * # and +. You can find your HulloMail number under the Service Info tab on My HulloMail.
For example, if you wanted to set a 15 second delay before HulloMail answers and your HulloMail number was 07777777777, you would call the following:
**61*+447777777777*11*15#.
You have now changed your delay to 15 seconds.
How do I know what contact source/provider to select?
As soon as you have signed up for HulloMail you can setup your contacts so that you can see who is calling you instantly. If you have HulloMail for BlackBerry or iPhone then your phone contacts will automatically associate with your messages and missed calls. If you have HulloMail for Android this option is currently not available, but you can synchronise your GMail contacts, as with all apps (instructions on how to do this can be found here).
I want to synchronise with my phone contacts, how do I do that?
This process is different depending on your device. With iPhone and BlackBerry this synchronisation happens automatically.
If you have HulloMail for BlackBerry you can also go to the Settings menu, select Contacts and make sure the Contacts Source is set to BlackBerry, this will synchronise your phone contacts with HulloMail.
If you have HulloMail for another device/the web-based service or for iPhone you need to visit My HulloMail, sign in and select Contacts. Next to Contacts Provider you will find a drop-down menu, select Phone from the list. This means the phone number you signed up with will be the contact source and will synchronise with your HulloMail service.
This feature is currently not available for Android phone contacts, but is possible for Google contacts.

I want to synchronise with my email contacts, how do I do that?

I don't want any contacts to be synchronised with the HulloMail service
If this is the case, then make sure you select None as your contact source/provider.
I haven't updated my contacts recently, how do I refresh them with HulloMail?
If you have selected Google as your Contact Source, then you don't need to do anything as your contacts are automatically refreshed when a message is delivered to your account.
If you have your contacts synchronised with iPhone, your contacts will automatically refresh every time you start up the app. If you have done this and your contacts are still not refreshed, then try logging out of the app, closing it, then restart the app and sign in. If you then leave the app open for a short time, your contacts will be fully refreshed.
If your contacts are synchronised with your BlackBerry, select Settings, Contacts, BlackBerry, then OK. This will refresh your contacts immediately.
I can see a HulloMail icon next to a contact in my address book, what does that mean?
HulloMail is bringing your address book to life.
The HulloMail logo next to a contact means they also use HulloMail and you can send Hullos directly to their phone.
But don't worry you don't have to be a HulloMail user to receive a Hullo. Where you see the envelope icon, you have their email address and can send a Hullo to them that way.
How do I record a personal greeting?
This process is slightly different depending on your phone.
iPhone - You need to select Settings and then Voicemail from the menu, select Greeting from this screen. In this section you will see what is your current active greeting (Default or Personal) and it will tell you whether you have recorded a personal greeting. To record, click Personal and you will be taken to another screen where you can record your greeting. Don't worry if you get stage fright, you can play and re-record your greeting as often as you like. Once you are happy select Save.
Android - Click on the Settings menu and select Voicemail, then Greetings. Select Personal and press the red button to begin recording. Once you are happy press Save. If Personal is already selected you can still press this option to record another greeting.
BlackBerry - Press the menu button and choose Settings, select Voicemail, then Greetings. Select Personal and press the record button to begin recording. Once you are happy press the menu button on your phone and select Save. If Personal is already selected you can still press this option to record another greeting.
Other devices/web-based service - You can record a personal greeting by calling 0121 621 8500 from the phone you signed up with, select option 5, then 1 for Personal Greeting or 2 to record your name.

Can I record my name?
You can if you prefer, just record your name and not a full personal greeting. The Name Recording will be played as part of the default greeting if no personal greeting is recorded and selected.
If you have HulloMail for iPhone you need to go to the Settings menu, select Voicemail, select Greetings and press where it states Recorded Name. Then you are taken to a screen where you can record, play back and re-record your name, if necessary.
If you have HulloMail for BlackBerry press the Menu button and choose Settings, then select Voicemail, followed by Greetings and click on where it states Recorded Name. Then you are taken to a screen where you can record, play back and re-record your name, if necessary.
If you have HulloMail for any other device/web-based service, you need to call 0121 621 8500 from the phone you signed up with, select option 5, then 2 to record your name.
I don't want to record a personal greeting, is there another option?
Of course, the default greeting setting is 'Default', so if you don't record a personal greeting or name, 'Default' will always be the greeting that callers receive.
Can I record and select different greetings depending on who the caller is?
Unfortunately this is not possible at the moment, however it is something we are looking to introduce shortly.
What email accounts does HulloMail support?
HulloMail supports any email account. With providers such as Gmail and MobileMe you can select them as your message store by ticking HulloMail Sync, which will magically ensure your message status is always synchronised, no matter how you access the service.
Why is it important to verify my email address?
Our service is about sending your voice messages to your email, if we don't have the correct and verified email address, this is not possible.
I haven't received an email to verify my email address

It's also possible to configure this via your BlackBerry or Android by going to the Settings menu, selecting email and following the prompts. If you experience any problems please contact support@hullomail.com as this can sometimes be a bit tricky to set up.
HulloMail is dependent on my email account details, what do I do if I change any of these?
If you change any of your email details, the address and/or password please ensure you update your HulloMail account. You can update your details via your device if you have the BlackBerry or Android app. Select Settings, Personal Details (on the BlackBerry) or General (on the Android) and amend your email details accordingly. You will be sent a new verification email to make sure we have the correct information. You can also change these details by visiting My HulloMail, select Settings, then General to amend. You will currently need to amend any details this way if you are using the iPhone app.
How do I set up or modify my message storage?
If you have an Android or BlackBerry device, you can change this directly from the app by going to Settings and selecting Email. Here you can choose your Email provider and enter all your email account's details. Don't forget to tick HulloMail Sync and then press the Save button. How do I know I've got a voicemail, Hullo or missed call?
If you have an Android, iPhone or BlackBerry, please use the HulloMail app as it immediately notifies you of any new messages. These notifications will be in the form of a sound, vibration or both depending on your device. In addition, if you have the app the HulloMail badge will be automatically updated when your receive a message or missed call. If you're using HulloMail for other devices/web-based services, you will be notified of all messages and missed calls via email only.
What is a HulloMail new voicemail notification?
How you are notified depends on your device and is also different if you have a HulloMail app or web-based services.
iPhone - You will receive a message on your device, a vibration and the HulloMail badge will update. You will also receive an email to your registered email address if you have this facility activated.
BlackBerry - You will receive a vibration and an icon will appear on the banner at the top of your screen. The icon will be different depending on whether you have received a message or a missed call. The HulloMail badge will also update.
Android - You will see the HulloMail icon at the top of your device screen in your notification bar.
If you are using the web-based service you will be notified by email only.
What is a HulloMail new missed call notification?
If a caller hangs up before leaving you a message you will receive a HulloMail missed call notification. This is a changeable option, which you can switch on or off depending on your preference. To turn missed call notifications on or off you need to visit the Settings menu in your app, or My HulloMail, select General and where it states Missed Calls, simply untick the box.
I already get notified of missed calls, why is HulloMail any different?
This can be very useful if you receive a call while out of coverage or if your phone is switched off. HulloMail tells you who called if they didn't leave a message. This is a feature not offered by many Mobile Operators today. You will always know and never miss that important call again.
How can I turn missed calls on/off?
If you have an iPhone or Android device, go to Settings and select Voicemail. Here you will be able to turn Missed Calls on or off. This option does not need to be saved, it is done automatically.
On BlackBerry, simply go to Settings and turn Missed Calls on or off directly from the main settings menu. This option does not need to be saved, it is done automatically.
You can also change this option by visiting My HulloMail, selecting the General tab and ticking Include missed calls, followed by Save.
How do I manage my notifications?
If you have an iPhone, go to Settings and select Notification. Here you can turn SMS notification on/off and also re-activate Apple Push. This is a great way to minimise roaming charges when travelling. This option is only available to UK users.
This option is not available for any other phone currently.
I'm going abroad, how can I use HulloMail to minimise my roaming charges?
If you have voicemail with a UK Mobile Operator and have travelled you will know how costly and difficult it can be to retrieve your messages while away.
To minimise roaming charges, before you leave the UK you can set HulloMail to answer all your calls.
Please note doing this will mean your phone will not even ring when you are abroad but HulloMail will notify you when you have a new message. You then have several choices, you can decide to call and listen to your voice messages, call the person from the notification or simply access your email via the internet.
For HulloMail to answer all your voice calls please activate HulloMail Roaming by dialing
**21*(personal mailbox number)#, and call.
Your personal mailbox number can be found at My HulloMail, in the Service Info section.
Remember to re-set HulloMail when you return to the UK by dialing the following codes:
- Clear divert all: #21# and call
- Set conditional divert: Reactivate HulloMail service, see Service Info tab at My HulloMail for the number to dial to do this. The number will be displayed at the top of the Service Info page.
If you follow the steps above you are setting up HulloMail as an unconditional divert. In this case, HulloMail will answer all incoming calls directly, regardless of what your handset is doing at the time. We recommend doing this if you wish to leave your phone on when roaming as it cuts out the international leg of a call that your Mobile Operator would normally charge for. Remember to change this when you return to the UK and dial the conditional divert code (HulloMail activation) to have your phone ring again.
How do I call HulloMail whilst roaming?
From the UK dial 0121 621 8500 from any phone. From abroad dial +44 21 621 8500. If the phone you are calling from is not your registered mobile or not recognised you will be asked for your number and PIN. However if the call was done from your registered phone, only your PIN will be requested. Your PIN was sent to you when you signed up and can also be found within the app and at My HulloMail. Select Settings, General and your PIN can be updated from here.
I've forgotten my password, what do I do now?
If you forget your password don't worry, you can request a new password in a number of ways:
- You can request a new temporary password directly from the Sign In screen of your iPhone and Android phone. When you launch the app you will be asked to sign in, below this you will see a Forgotten Password link. Click this link and follow the prompts to request a temporary password. Your new temporary password will be sent to the email address you registered with.
- Visit My HulloMail, on the sign in screen there is a Forgotten Password link. Select this and follow the prompts. You will be sent a temporary password to the email address you registered with which you can change to something more memorable later.
Is HulloMail secure?
Yes, access to HulloMail is protected by a high-grade 256bit SSL certificate that fully encrypts all communication between your internet browser and the HulloMail service.
If you have selected your email account as your message store, we will always connect using IMAP(s), port 993 wherever possible. This means that communication between HulloMail and your email account is fully encrypted and secure.
Where do I find my HulloMail PIN?
You will find your PIN in your Welcome email which you received when you signed up for HulloMail. You can also find your PIN at My HulloMail and in the Settings menu on your HulloMail app.
Your PIN number is a four digit number that is only required if you call HulloMail from another telephone which is different to the one you registered with. Sometimes we may ask for your PIN if you call from abroad.

If you have an iPhone, go to Settings and select Password, PIN. On the following screen enter your Old password, then your New password. Confirm the new password and press Save.
On Android, go to Settings and select General. On the following screen, enter your new password and confirm it, then press the Save button.

I want to return to my old voicemail service from my mobile operator, I have an Android device, how do I do that?
This is simple to do, the Android completes most of the steps automatically.

2. Select Settings
3. Select About
4. Press the Service Termination button at the bottom of the About screen
5. Remove the app from your device
This will open a page containing the specific instructions for your device. Make sure you follow all the instructions and do not just delete the app from your device as this does not cancel the divert that was set when you registered for HulloMail and means that HulloMail will still be taking your calls. What's the difference between a missed call and a voicemail
A voicemail is when someone calls your mobile and the call is not picked up so they are then transferred to the answering service where they can leave a message. Once a message has been left this is then a voicemail. Alternatively if someone calls you and doesn't stay on the line to leave a voicemail but goes through to the answer service and then puts the phone down, this is a missed call, and is called a 'slam down'. HulloMail covers both of these but missed call notification can be switched on or off depending on your preference.
